If you weren’t, then you might have been wondering why “Cairo” or “#cairospeech” has been trending heavily on Twitter. In his second stop of a four-nation trip to the Middle East and Europe, U.S. President Barack Obama issued a widely anticipated speech to the Muslim world today in Cairo, Egypt. According to The Wall Street Journal,
“The White House has been keen to capture the largest possible audience for Mr. Obama’s speech Thursday in Cairo, but aides to the president repeatedly sought to dial back expectations for the speech, noting that it will be just one of several outreach efforts.
The State Department is making free text messages of the speech available in Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and English and is translating the address into 13 languages. The speech is being promoted on social-network sites such as Facebook, which is doing a special promotion in the Muslim world. The administration has lobbied TV networks across the region to cover it live.”
